Kids Ministry Assistant

Position Summary

The role of the Kid’s Ministry Assistant is to assist the Kid’s Pastor and Kid’s Ministry Director in the operational responsibilities and programming which are offered to children and families. The successful candidate will work with the Kid’s Pastor and Kid’s Ministry Director, and our TJC Kid’s Ministry Team to serve The Journey Church through facility preparation, event planning and execution, and service preparation, programming, and operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating a safe, Christ-centered, and age-appropriate learning environment for each child.
  • Assist in planning & prepping curriculum elements used in the children’s programs.
  • Teach classes for children’s programs as needed.
  • Assist Kids Ministry Director in building and maintaining Special Needs ministry systems, as needed.
  • Assist Kids Ministry Director in planning and executing seasonal events and programs.
  • Help recruit, coordinate and train Kids ministry volunteers.
  • Assist in preparing, organizing and cleaning of all spaces and equipment in the Kids area.
  • Use the church software for scheduling events and check in of all Kids church and special events as needed.
  • Build positive, professional and supportive relationships with families.
  • Help coordinate and supervise services and events.
  • Perform other operational and administrative duties as assigned by the Kids Pastor.
  • Fulfill key duties of Kids Ministry Director during vacations and sabbatical.

Qualifications

  • Must have a gospel conversion story
  • Demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for children.
  • Must have followed in obedience through believer’s baptism
  • Must be:

    • Respectable
    • Hospitable
    • Not a drunkard
    • Not violent but gentle
    • Not quarrelsome
    • Not a lover of money
  • Must abide daily
  • Must love people and have a servant’s heart
  • Ability to work well with others and be a team player.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs., stand, sit, kneel, and squat with ease for extended periods.
  • Available to work on Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and scheduled events.

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Exhibit Biblical knowledge and teaching ability.
  • Excellent time management with the proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge, familiarity, and experience with computers, the internet and Microsoft Office.
  • Friendly, patient, flexible and prompt, reliable.

Sample Work Week

*Example only, subject to change depending on programming and availability. Potential candidate could possibly work less hours across more days.

Sunday: 7am-2pm (7hrs)

  • Arrive and help prepare rooms, supplies, and check in areas.
  • Lead coordinators in checking in volunteers and ensuring all classrooms are staffed and stocked with supplies.
  • Oversee the Kid’s wing during one-two services. Serve in a supervisory and support role to volunteers during services.
  • Help clean and shut down all service elements and spaces after the last service.

Wednesday: 12pm-8pm (8hrs)

  • Room and supply preparation for MDWK service.
  • Begin room and supply preparation for Sunday service where applicable.
  • Perform misc. admin and cleaning/organizing duties for the week.
  • Oversee the Kid’s wing during MDWK service. Serve in a supervisory and support role to volunteers during the service.
  • Help clean and shut down all service elements and spaces after service.

Thursday: 11am-5pm (6hrs)

  • Room and supply preparation for Sunday service.
  • Perform misc. admin and cleaning/organizing duties for the week.
  • Assist in electronic communication to parents and volunteers.
  • Assist Kid’s Ministry Director in ensuring that all Sunday scheduling is sufficient.
