Facility Maintenance Assistant

The Facility Maintenance Assistant will maintain facility cleanliness and functionality through proactive maintenance and teamwork, including support for evening and special events.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning & Facility Upkeep (Primary Focus)

  • Maintain cleanliness across restrooms, lobbies, worship spaces, classrooms, offices, and common areas
  • Restock and inspect restrooms regularly, especially during high-traffic times
  • Vacuum, mop, polish, and remove debris daily
  • Clean walls, doors, windows, and glass surfaces as needed
  • Maintain kitchen and curtain holder areas to health standards
  • Manage trash, recycling, and dumpster areas

Sunday & High-Traffic Readiness

  • Communicate needs promptly with Director of Facilities
  • Conduct pre-service walkthroughs and post-service resets
  • Respond quickly to spills and immediate cleaning needs

Exterior Maintenance

  • Keep entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, and outdoor spaces clean
  • Support basic landscaping, pressure washing, and debris removal
  • Maintain playgrounds and outdoor areas

Preventative Maintenance and Repairs

  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC support
  • Replace bulbs, filters, ceiling tiles, and minor fixtures
  • Conduct routine inspections and report issues promptly
  • Maintain organization of mechanical areas

Supporting Standards

With Volunteers

  • Model cleanliness and organization
  • Prepare tools and tasks for efficiency
  • Reinforce standards and assist with training
  • Support room setup and resets

With Contractors

  • Ensure adherence to facility standards
  • Report concerns to Director of Facilities

Events and Evening Support

  • Assist with setup/teardown (tables, chairs, staging)
  • Monitor cleanliness and address needs during events
  • Support weddings, funerals, conferences, and gatherings
  • Ensure proper building closure and security

Team Expectations

  • Build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and vendors
  • Communicate clearly and proactively
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and a servant-minded attitude

Qualifications

  • Custodial or maintenance experience preferred
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation standards
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
  • Basic mechanical knowledge preferred
  • Flexible schedule (evenings and occasional weekends)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or on a team
